A KVAR, or Kilovolt Amp Reduction unit, is a small box that is installed next to your breaker box. It’s designed to absorb and store excess electricity, which means a lower electric bill.
A KVAR also reduces ‘noise’ in the electrical system and eliminates power surges. KVARs are currently installed in thousands of homes nationwide.
For safety reasons, a KVAR should only be installed by an electrician. Southern Chester County Electric currently recommends and offers the Power Save 1200. Visit our Power Save page and then contact us for for more info.
You can save on your monthly energy bills and reduce your impact on the environment by choosing more energy efficient lighting in your home.
Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) can save you a lot because a large percent of your overall monthly energy usage is lighting. CFLs contain mercury and should be disposed of properly. Contact your local waste management center for info.
Also, some people don’t like the light that fluorescent bulbs put out especially for the living space areas. However, with incandescent standard bulbs, if you use a dimmer and keep the lights dimmed down you can still reduce your energy usage.
Consider using high pressure sodium lights for outdoor lighting. Sodium lights use 50% less watts to get the same light, and have 10 times the bulb life.
